Urgent Announcement

The ELF13 Organizing Committee is delighted to announce that the review process was completed as scheduled. The results will be sent out to individual authors in the next few days.

Due to the severe condition of COVID-19 epidemic in the globe, people from many regions are facing travel restrictions. Though Taiwan is doing well in preventing further spread of the virus, it is difficult for the Committee to arrange the venues, hotels, and travel plans. We believe the current situation will also discourage conference participants to make international trips in the near future. Therefore, the Organization Committee of ELF13 decided to cancel the conference in July, 2020.

With the permission and support of ELF Academic Research Committee, ELF13 will take place in Tainan in the summer of 2021. The details of the conference will be announced on the official website later this year. This is a difficult decision, but we felt this is the safest solution for everyone’s benefit. Instructions regarding how we plan to handle the accepted presentations are mentioned in the letter to the authors. There may be opening for new submissions, if some authors withdraw their papers from the conference in 2021.

We wish everyone well and sound!

Welcome to ELF13

Let's go ELF 2021: Expanding the Orientations

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) warmly welcomes you to the 13th International Conference of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF13), to be held in Tainan City, Taiwan, in 2021. ELF13 in Taiwan follows the successes of the previous ELF conferences held in Helsinki (2008), Southampton (2009), Vienna (2010), Hong Kong (2011), Istanbul (2012), Rome (2013), Athens (2014), Beijing (2015), Lleida (2016), Helsinki (2017), London (2018), and Medellín (2019).

ELF13 seeks to explore the rapidly-growing phenomenon of English as a Lingua Franca from linguistics, psychology, education, corpus studies, sociolinguistics, English learning/teaching, and language policy in diverse settings where English is the contact language for international communication. Together we will explore the implications and applications of ELF across disciplines.

Carrying on the vision of the past 12 ELF conferences, ELF13 will serve as another stepping stone in bridging the gap among ELF users, educators and scholars across geographical and cultural boundaries.

ELF is happening around us.  LET's GO ELF in Tainan in 2021!
